Our primary curriculum is designed to be rigorous, enjoyable, and challenging. The curriculum is based on an amalgamation of the English and French curricula and is delivered in a totally bilingual setting, 50% in English and 50% in French taught by native qualified teachers.
Students develop their linguistic skills through complete immersion in both English and French which, backed by studies and research, show it to be the most enjoyable and effective way to learn new languages.
As a vibrant international school, children join the school with differing levels of proficiency in either English or French. With our complete immersion approach, language acquisition becomes an integral part of learning through a rich curriculum. Teachers meet weekly to ensure that the curriculum is seamless and matches the requirements of both French and UK standards.
“Language Boost” programme
Every child will be assessed of their language proficiency at the beginning of the academic year. This language assessment will allow the teacher to follow the progress of each child. Children that are not yet fully bilingual will be assigned into their respective ability group to attend our “Language Boost” programmes every Wednesday afternoon. Native French children attend English as an Additional Language (EAL). Likewise, native English speakers learn Français Langue Etrangère (FLE). For children whose mother tongue is neither English nor French, we encourage a prioritisation of one language acquisition first. English is probably a suitable choice in a majority of cases.
Once the language skills achieve the satisfactory level, students will join the bilingual group to learn a Modern Foreign Language which is designed for those already fully bilingual children.
Mandarin Chinese is on offer at Kingsworth.
