MIDDLE SCHOOL

The academic programme for Grade 6 to Grade 8 at Kingsworth International School is based on the English National Curriculum but is not restricted by its limitations. Our curriculum provides students with a challenging, meaningful and enjoyable programme of study.

Laying a strong foundation of skills, knowledge and habits is crucial to success in Key Stage 4 and beyond. Our curriculum at Key Stage 3 provides this excellent foundation for further study through well-planned, informative, innovative and creative lessons set in an international and local context. In which we take the best elements from around the world to create a truly informative and dynamic learning experience.

The programme consists of English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Art, Music, Theatre, PE, Spanish, French and Computer Science. At Key Stage 3 students take classes in all of these subjects all of which are taught by highly qualified subject specialists who make full use of our excellent facilities. Key Stage 3 students are constantly developing a strong foundation to guarantee success during the time at Kingsworth International School and in preparation for either IGCSE or entry in to a different educational setting.

Students are taught in an environment where risk-taking, independence, critical thinking and teamwork are highly promoted. It is these key attributes, along with the rest of our Core Values and Learning/Teaching Ethos, that provide our students with the best possible foundation for Key Stage 4 and beyond.

IGCSE

At Kingsworth International School the essence of the Key Stage 4 curriculum is the balance between a curriculum that offers breadth and that of student choice. We firmly believe in encouraging all to follow their passions and that enjoyment of a subject fosters success.

Although we recognise the importance of excellent grades, they are only part of what makes a successful student. At Kingsworth we value the individual and treat everyone accordingly. We strive to enable all students to find their given talent and to pursue their passions to fulfill the potential they all possess. Every student at Kingsworth will experience success.

We teach the statutory Key Stage 4 subjects of: Maths, English (Either 1st Language or 2nd Language), Science (Double Award Sciences), French (Either 1st Language or 2nd Language), Non-curriculum PE and Non-curriculum Theatre.

In order to develop their higher order thinking skills all students are encouraged to be creative and demonstrate a higher level of independence through the curriculum and co-curricular activities; these are vital skills to enable success in the 21st century.

UPPER SCHOOL

The A Levels courses and the structure of the British National Curriculum for Upper Schools are designed to provide a comprehensive and internationally recognized education for students in their final two years of upper secondary schooling. These courses are widely respected for their academic rigor and serve as a gateway to higher education and professional opportunities.In the British National Curriculum for Upper Schools, students typically study a selection of A Level subjects, each of which is specialized and academically demanding. A Levels offer students the flexibility to choose subjects that align with their interests and career aspirations, allowing them to delve deeply into their chosen fields of study.

The British National Curriculum for Upper Schools typically follows a two-year structure, with students taking AS (Advanced Subsidiary) Level examinations at the end of the first year and A Level examinations at the end of the second year. AS Levels provide a foundation for A Levels, allowing students to gain essential subject knowledge and skills before proceeding to more advanced coursework. This staged approach enables students to make informed decisions about which subjects to pursue in greater depth for their A Levels. Additionally, the curriculum places a strong emphasis on key skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication, all of which are essential for success in higher education and the professional world. Overall, the British National Curriculum for Upper Schools, including A Levels, equips students with a well-rounded education that prepares them for the challenges of an increasingly competitive and globalized world.

Students are required to take rigorous examinations at the end of the program with the help and guidance of their Form Tutor. The Sixth Form as with all years at Kingsworth are small. All tutors work closely with the Deputy Head Teacher and have a vital role to play overseeing a student’s academic and personal progress. Specific lessons are dedicated to such matters as study skills, time management, relevant personal, social and current issues and, as time goes on, the process of applying for Higher Education or employment. Overall, the curriculum in the Kingsworth Sixth Form ensures that all of our students have the opportunity to maximise their potential, leaving Kingsworth as confident, articulate, successful young people ready to make their mark on the world. This structure not only prepares students for university-level studies but also fosters intellectual maturity and self-discipline. Moreover, A Levels are internationally recognized, making them an ideal choice for students in international schools like those in Paris, as they open doors to universities around the world.

COLLEGE PREPARATORY HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA

The College Preparatory High School Diploma gives a well-rounded education, which allows students to study in whatever field they choose.  It is thus a great alternative to the A-level program for students who are not yet ready to choose one specific area of study. 

Earning a diploma is based on the satisfactory completion of the necessary classes. The course is a mix of assessment and exam, balancing reliability and consistency for students in this program, engendering a love and respect for learning.

Over the course of four years, between 9th and 12th grades, students must earn a MINIMUM of 18 credits.

This has to include:
     4 in Mathematics
     4 in English
     3 in Social Sciences
     3 in Natural Sciences
     2 in World Languages
     1 in Physical Education
     1 in Art
    Other electives (such as M.U.N., Music, Theatre, and other World Languages). 

Each credit represents one full year of coursework in the given subject. Universities world-wide acknowledge the High School Diploma alongside the SAT or ACT, which are standardized tests that allow universities a point of comparison for students from all over the world who have completed their High School Diploma.

ART PROGRAMME

The art curriculum for the A Level course is thoughtfully designed to provide students with a rich and immersive artistic experience. Paris, with its world-renowned museums, galleries, and architectural wonders, serves as an invaluable backdrop for inspiration and exploration, allowing students to engage with the city's artistic heritage firsthand. The curriculum also fosters a deep understanding of art history and theory, enabling students to analyze and contextualize their own work within the broader scope of artistic traditions.
